Dare to Lead™ is an empirically-based courage and leadership building program. It teaches leaders know how to have hard conversations, hold themselves and others accountable, lead with empathy and connection, take smart risks that lead to innovation, build trust, reset quickly after disappointments and setbacks, and give and receive feedback – even when it’s tough. Especially when it’s tough.

Research shows courage is a collection of four teachable, observable, and measurable skills sets:

  • Rumbling with Vulnerability: Facing risk, uncertainty, and emotional exposure with courage and clarity.
  • Living into our Values: Identifying, operationalizing, and practicing the beliefs that we hold most important.
  • Braving Trust: Creating or deepening connections in relationships and teams based on the seven elements of trust.
  • Learning to Rise: Learning and growing from the failures, setbacks, and disappointments that are inevitable when we are brave with our lives.

The Dare to Lead program was developed through a combination of 20 years of research on courage, vulnerability, empathy, and shame, and 7 years of researching leadership including interviews with 150 leaders across disciplines from special forces military to Pixar, from Oil and Gas in Asia to nonprofits in Europe, and data collected from instrument development with MBA and eMBA students at Wharton, Kellogg, and the Jones School at Rice.

All that to say – this program isn’t fluff. It’s rigorous. It’s research-based. And it’s designed for leaders who are ready to choose courage in how they lead themselves, their teams and their organizations.

Only Certified Dare to Lead™ Facilitators are able to publicly facilitate this curriculum.

The Daring Way™ method is based on the research of Brené Brown, Ph.D. LMSW. Dr. Brené Brown is a research professor at the University of Houston where she holds the Huffington Foundation Brené Brown Endowed Chair at The Graduate College of Social Work. Her groundbreaking research has been featured on PBS, NPR, CNN, and Oprah Winfrey’s Super Soul Sunday.

She has spent the past two decades studying courage, vulnerability, shame, and empathy and is the author of five #1 New York Times bestsellers: The Gifts of Imperfection (2010), Daring Greatly (2012), Rising Strong (2015), Braving the Wilderness (2017), and her latest book, Dare to Lead (2018), which is the culmination of a seven-year study on courage and leadership.

Brené’s 2010 TED talk – The Power of Vulnerability – is one of the top five most viewed TED talks in the world with over 35 million views. Additionally, Brené gave the closing talk at the 2012 TED conference, where she talked about shame, courage, and innovation.
